After One Month in Oviedo…
With the arrival of September our stay in Oviedo was one-third complete. August had been an incredible month, and we had seen a lot… the idea of two more months was exhilarating, and we were interested to see how our opinions of the city might evolve. So, we had the idea to conduct a small self-survey of our thoughts after one month.
Our After One Month in Oviedo Self-Interview
Most Memorable
Mike: Standing at the top of Mount Naranco, with the view over the city.
Jürgen: The Panoramic view from Mount Naranco
Favorite Food
Mike: Merluza cooked in cider… with cider to drink
Jürgen: Fabada
Most Surprising
Mike: How perfect the weather has been. I hope it keeps up!
Jürgen: How quietly the people speak compared with Valencia. My hearing is damaged from all the Valencian mascletàs, so you’ll have to speak up!
Most Disappointing
Mike: Not a big fan of fabada
Jürgen: No bike paths within the city and very few areas for dogs
Funniest / Weirdest
Mike: This maybe isn’t just Oviedo, but I’ve noticed it here — there are a lot of young South American guys who are apparently hired to walk around with extremely old men. And they’re all listening to iPods.
Jürgen: It’s weird that almost all the tourists are Spanish… very few foreigners
How Expensive? From 1 (cheap) to 10 (expensive)
Mike: 6 – there are bargains, but the restaurants seem overly pricey if you don’t stick to the menu
Jürgen: 7
People from Oviedo are…
Mike: Very open and friendly. Also, their Spanish is much easier to understand than in other regions.
Jürgen: Super friendly
Oviedo in Three Words
Mike: Clean, Affluent, Relaxed
Jürgen: Green, Walkable, SIDRA
It’ll be interesting to see how our opinions change in the next two months. Everyone says that September is radically different, as people have returned from vacations and school resumes. And of course, there’s a little festival coming up… we’re already getting excited about that.

September is definitely the BEST month in Oviedo, I assure you.

yes, September is the best month in Oviedo, with San Mateo, people returning to the town after holidays, but not quite in full throttle yet. It’s an amazing time of the year to be in Oviedo, there’s another kind of life. Still relaxed, but the city is more alive than ever.
Your self survey is a great idea!
About ‘how expensive’ – we were in Bilbao and for us it was cheaper than Finland and Morocco.
Here in Casa you have to pay 13 euros for DryMartini. Yes. 13!
How about there?
